Critical Argument Essay Draft

Let’s Make Earth Day Everyday

Earth Day should be celebrated every day. This Earth is our sanctuary, and our home, so for what reason would it be a good idea to destroy it? Who wants to live in a world surrounded by garbage and polluted air? If people and companies want to see green these days, it should be grass not money. Nowadays people care more about profit then the wellbeing of our planet. People should be aware and careful with their actions everyday, not just on Earth Day. Our planet will soon become uninhabitable, celebrating Earth Day once a year is not enough to reverse the warming of the Earth.

The Earth has a limited amount of air and we are damaging its quality. According to “Air Pollution Modeling and Its Application XX” by Douw G. Steyn and S. T. Rao “Hazardous toxic gases and vapours are produced and transported in modern industry. In case of accidents the release and dispersion of hazardous substances may cause severe problems to the populations living where such materials are handled”(15). This conveys that the craetion alone of harmful chemicals and fossil fuels are very harmful to the environment and the people and animals living in the area. When chemicals and fossil fuels are produced and burned, the gas does not  leave the atmosphere. Gasses and chemicals can cause other harmful effects like, population decrease in certain species (sometimes even extinction), global warming and ozone depletion. Habitats and ecosystems are connected. If a river is polluted a population of fish can die of malnutrition and a species can thrive and grow to an amount that is bad for the environment. In other words, human impact can have a negative effect on an environment and impact it negatively.

The actions people take should reflect their desires. Naturally people want to live, so the environment should be protected so that people can live and survive. People should act as if every day is Earth Day for the very air they breathe. Imagine an empty uninhabitable planet that is all preventable if people would be more conscious and careful with what they do and the products they purchase because it may be harmful to the environment. If everyday was treated as if it was Earth Day, problems like air pollution would not be so widespread, developed and ignored.

Since 1970, every year on April 22 Earth Day is celebrated. Earth Day is celebrated as a day to commemorate the Earth and raise awareness of our dying planet. On Earth Day some streets are closed, and are filled with people riding bikes, scooters, using that do not contribute to the damaging of the Earth. Some people even celebrate Earth Day from home by doing things like, recycling, practicing yoga outdoors, unplugging their TV’s, being vegetarians for the day. However, will one day of not using non renewable resources be enough to help the Earth? In fact, it is not enough, global warming is an issue that has been going on for centuries.

Global warming is the warming of Earth’s climate due to the weakening of the ozone layer. Sometimes global warming has a natural occurrence but it Is usually caused by the emission of damaging fossil fuels into the atmosphere. Global Warming causes change in climates all around the world no matter the environment. The Earth’s ecosystems are connected, one change in an ecosystem affects all the other ecosystems. For example, the Arctic and the Pacific ocean are ecosystems that are drastically being affected. According to “Changing Arctic” by H. Jesse Smith, the Arctic is experiencing the most rapid warming of any region on the planet. Smith states “now we know that changes within the Arctic can have a direct impact on the rest of the world” meaning that the no matter the place, and whether or not it has a direct significance to you if global warming occurs, the negative effects can be seen across the globe. The repercussions of not using materials wisely are life threatening. No matter where we are we will see these effects and our actions will have consequences, so why not be more eco friendly on days other than Earth Day? By taking steps to help and by doing eco friendly things every day we can lessen the mortality of the consequences to come for future generations and the possibility of a catastrophic event happening to ours.

Our very air is affected by our decisions. There are thousands of cars and vehicles the emit harmful gasses into the Earth’s atmosphere on a daily basis. The many harmful gasses and pollution worsen the quality of the air we breathe. There are many organisms that depend on Oxygen, and using non renewable resources may only decrease  the population of many living organisms. On Earth Day people should not use so many paper products to save paper or plant a tree to help contribute to the production of air. People should be concerned for the very air the breathe on a daily basis not just on Earth Day

On the contrary some people believe that global warming does not exist and that the Earth is perfectly fine. The United States President Donald Trump and The Flat Earth Society believe that global warming does not exist. The digital cartoon “The Flat Earth Society” congratulates American President Donald Trump on rejecting global warming” is a cartoon speaking about New Zealand’s social and political issues and Donald Trumps belief that global warming does not exist. Donald Trump is an important world leader who has said that a scientifically proven problem “global warming” is false. Being that Donald Trump is an important world leader, people tend to believe everything he says. These claims have led many people astray, believing that global warming is not a big problem threatening all life on Earth.  The digital cartoon shows a man who is not Donald Trump opening a letter congratulating Donald Trump. It also shows people in an underground room making a decision. The greatest take away from this cartoon is that two unreliable sources have made a claim that is incorrect. It has been scientifically proven that global warming and ozone depletion are both effects of air pollution that cause the melting of glaciers (increase of the sea level).

Global warming is very real and because of claims similar to those made by United States President Donald Trump many people do not care about what they do. The statements Donald Trump hs made inregards to global warming have caused many people to belive that global warming is not a issue which means they are not taking it seriously, people believe that littering, using an excess amount of gas, smoking, wasting paper, not recyicling, using a great amount of energy will have no effect but the results will be catastrophic. Instead, people should believe that global warming is an imminent threat, able to cease life on earth if not controlled. People should be conscious and treat every day as if it was Earth Day because the effects of ozone depletion and pollution are hardly reversible.

Earth Day should be celebrated every day. This Earth is our sanctuary, and our home and it is uncertain whether or not there is another habitable planet, the Earth needs to be protected from the amount of waste produced to the gasses and chemicals we emit into the atmosphere.    No one wants to live in a world surrounded by garbage and polluted air. If people and companies became greener and practiced bio and eco friendly practices the Earth would be in a better state. We need to care more for the wellbeing of our planet then profit and dismiss ridiculous claims that global warming does not exist. People should be well-aware and educated about our planet and the negative affect humans as a whole are having on it. Every day should be treated like an Earth day for our brothers and sisters and generations to come.
